Bok Tower

During my three day vacation this week, I took today to ventured over to Lake Wales, Florida, to photograph “Historic Bok Sanctuary”. Built during the years 1927 and 1928, the bell tower you see here was the idea of Edward W. Bok, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author. The tower is positioned at the top of Florida’s highest point, thus the tag-line that the park uses, “Florida’s Higher Place”.

I was there during mid-day, which did not lend itself to the best photographic conditions. The image of the whole tower was not completely to my liking in color, so I turned it black and white and gave it a selective color treatment…creating a slight spin on a very photographed structure.

The brass entry door depicts the six days of creation with each row of square engravings. There's a small piece of land between the pond and the moat that goes around the tower, however, it was slightly off-limits due to renovative landscaping...but I went onto it anyway to get the image of the door up close with my telephoto lens. Sometimes to get "the shot", you need to take a few chances.

I've never been there, but have wanted to.

Bok Tower Gardens and a couple of lighthouses are within easy "day trip" distance from Palm Bay, but we just haven't gotten there yet.

Mid-day or not, your photos came out nice.
